Days get shorter, lights get darker, weather going to turn on winter - mode, this time of the year, we prefer to stay inside, work a little bit on our home interior, to make it cozy and warming.

What do you think about a pillowcase DIY? :)
Oh yes, NATU boxes offering an easy way to show you how make a unique pillowcase, in a natural looking way, with all the things packed what you need for this project.

Grab a cup of coffee or tea, and let's get started! :)

Open your DIY kit, let's see what you can find in the pack:
- inside an envelope: freezer paper, print of positive message and a piece of decor foam
- two glass of paint (for textile)
- sponge brush
- pillow case made of a cotton bag

You need a pair of scissor, and some used paper or old newspaper.







Step 1:
Open the envelope and cut out the leaves from the decor foam.



Step 2:
Open the envelope again and cut out the written word of the freezer paper. The shiny side of the paper will stick on the cotton pillowcase when you warm it with the iron.



Step 3:
Open out the pillowcase - make sure the opening side is on the top - and find a place for your message, you can paint it in the middle or wherever you like. :) Try it, before you do the ironing part.



Step 4:
You need to put some used paper or old newsprint inside the pillowcase, because the cotton will be stick with the paint. Then iron the freezer paper and paint the text.





Step 5:
Find the decor foam leaves and try to set them on the pillowcase. I made a wrest, but do not be afraid to cut it into pieces - just use your creativity. :) To draw a circle -  I used a small plate. Paint the scratched side of the leaves and imprint it on the fabric.






















 Step 6:

You are almost ready.
Let the pillowcase dry for a day, and after turn the pillowcase inside out, (take out the paper!) iron the inside of the fabric - this is how you fix the painted area, so if you wash it later, the painting will stay on the fabric.
Wash it maximum on 30 Degrees, preferred with hand not with a washing machine.

The leaves and the writing part give you a lot of idea to use them. Actually, after making one pillowcase, you can wash the decor foam, and let it dry and use again! The freezer paper can be reusable too, dry it and paint something else.:)

It's ready now! How do you like it?

One more important step: if it's dry (after just a couple of minutes) turn over the material and fix the painted heart by ironing. Pay attention, because it can burn really quickly, so just use 3-4 moves with the iron and at a not too hot temperature. Between the layers, it is recommended to use another piece of material, or paper, so the paint won't color the other side too.





Now it's really ready.:)





This one is the non-symmetric heart; I guess it's more playful then the other one. You can make it as a gift, or you can simply use it for your everyday shopping. If you fixed the paint, then it's washable too.

Recently I just lost my old key-holder, it was about 10 years old, so it was the time for change. I wanted to make this clay version for a long time. At the moment it's like a spring or summer piece, but I really don't mind something springish, because this cold cold weather makes us remember the great hot summers, when the sun is shining and you're not cold!:) Yeah, it's been a while now...:)
So I searched my dried flower bouquet and I thought: give them another life, make them reborn. :)
Below I describe the creating process: how to make a pressed flower clay key- holder.


Supplies:

- air-dry clay
- knife
- dried flowers
- matte varnish for the clay
- brush
- rolling pin for clay
- small glass - or a round cookie cutter
- nail file - I like to use it more than my polishing set for clay - because it's smaller and can access every part of small surfaces
- key holder accessories 




First step is rolling out the clay, leave it 0,5 cm thick, because we need the clay material for pressing the flowers into it. Use the glass or the cookie cutter, make a round piece from the clay. Or more if you like. With the knife, make the sides smooth, but do not worry if this step is not perfect, because the end of the process you can polish the excess off.



Press the flowers into the clay, make sure to use a nice flower. Not all will be so beautiful, but keep trying.




Make a hole in the clay circle with the base with the brush, and let them dry. Normally it takes a day to dry totally, but if your place is heated like mine, then you can save some time.




If it's absolutely dry, use the varnish on the surface of the clay, or if you like, you can color them too with acrylic paints. I like it in a simple way, without any colors. Let them dry and make them fit for your keys. I really like mine, a piece of summer on my keys makes me happy.

Christmas is over, I know, but please let me show you some winter decoration ideas, there were made for Fine Living as a Christmas tree decor DIY.

I'm going to show you three easy, but lovely, low budget decorations, you can make it for the rest of the winter, because it's still winter, right?!

Air dry clay  decorations

What you need:

- Air dry clay
- cookie cutters
- leaves
- straw for the hole making
- mini perch for elongate
- acryl paints
- brush
- bands, ribbon, twine as a tab

Method:

I recommend to use air dry clay, so you don't have to turn on the owen, just let them dry during a day and they will be perfect. Elongate the clay and cut the sample you choose: use cookie cutters. Make sure to use the straw for making the hole for the tab. Let's give a texture: get a very textured fabric, or a leaf and lightly push into the clay, so they give a little nice pattern for your decorations. Give them a day to dry and tomorrow start painting. If they are totally dry, use a nail-file to perfect the sides of the decor and use it exactly the same way as you do your nails. Let's paint: use a technique which you prefer, in the pictures we used the almost dry brush technique: no water, just a pin of paint, with little brush pushes on the surface. The pattern will be visible very beaufifully. Let them dry and tie on the band or twine.
